Willow Water
The evolutionary life history of Willow Salix has been shaped over time by floods and extreme weather events in its riparian habitat. With an impressive 34 Willow species native to the Northwest, this old friend has a lot to teach us about the land, water, and the importance of adaptability.
In this next Lapis Sky offering we will step into the watery ways of Willow through:
Sensory Exploration
This looks like tasting Willow water infusion, Willow infused honey, and exploring the smell and texture of Willow’s cambium layer.Storytelling
Through story we will drop into the landscape of Willow with our mind’s eye to imagine the long arch of Willow’s evolution as a living being of the earth shaped over time through relationships with the elements and neighbors in its environment.Guided Rhythmic Patterns
We will incorporate rhythm, breath, and gentle movement patterns that highlight the physical and energetic medicine of Willow. A kinesthetic approach to learning helps us understand how this plant impacts the underlying forces of the body.
The distinctive thread that weaves through all Lapis Sky offerings is a focus on learning from one local plant at a time about its micro and macro medicine - medicine for both the human body and the land body.
For this reason, I am elated to share that after the Willow Water, participants will be invited to a second optional outing in April. We will take what we have learned and visit with eight individual Willow species growing together in a watershed restoration effort led by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe.
It is an honor to visit a large intentional Willow planting on tribal land. I see this outdoor opportunity further supporting our understanding of multidimensional Willow and the waters it grows near.
